Sports Media 10/11

Hello Classmates,

Most of the time I am tuning into T.V. sports shows, and radio stations not particularly for one anchor or personality, but just to listen to what is happening in the world of sports. One of the few shows that I do look forward to listening to everyday is Ron and Wolf. This show plays on the radio in Phoenix, AZ (620 AM AZ Sports).  I podcast every show and listen to the complete show at home. These two announcers are a perfect combination, and really feed off each other and complement each other well too.  The two anchors are Ron Franz and Ron Wolfley. Ron Wolfey is my favorite sports play by play and radio host.

Ron Wolfley is by far through my favorite sports personality. Ron has a huge, unique vocabulary and has a ton of phases and thoughts. Ron Wolfley played college football at West Virginia and played in the NFL for ten seasons. Knowing he played at both levels gives him a lot of insight into what is going on in the world of sports. Ron has a deep passion to all things sports and especially topics related to football. Probably my favorite thing about Ron is his phases.

Here is a sampling of some of his phases uttered during Arizona Cardinals radio broadcasts. "Larry Fitzgerald, like a falcon on a finch, stabbed it out of the sky."- At Seattle Seahawks, Oct. 18. • "Got lit up like Juice Newton's penthouse." - Green Bay Packers, Aug. 28. Most of the phases he comes up with give such a vivid thought to the listeners mind and really make you feel like you are there watching it live with him. Ron has a lot of one-liners and really energizes the audience with his knowledge and “bright” color commentary.

Wolfley's gravelly voice - it sounds as if it's emerging from a deep, dark cave - was partly born on the football field. During his junior year in college, he was hit in the throat. "I was spitting up blood for three days," he said once in an interview. Wolfley does not quip constantly during a game. Most of his analysis is straight-ahead discussion of eight-man fronts, zone blitzes and gap discipline. The metaphors and phraseology increase in frequency and creativity in conjunction with the game's intensity. I hope I am so passionate and have such a huge following as Wolf does and have such a great job.

Here is a YouTube clip about Ron Wolfley discussing his third preseason game in 1985 on the St. Louis Cardinals, as they played the Chicago Bears:

Behavioral Science - Motivation Blueprint 9/11

Jumping Hurdles
Behavioral Science Week 1
Motivation Blueprint

Hello my name is Kyle Thompson. For my week one jumping hurdles assignment I will be going over what I learned from chapters 1 &2 in my behavioral science class. By using the concepts and terms I learned I was able to take a close look at different goals I will be setting in my career path and general life itself. A personal goal of mine is to have an established career in a field of extreme passion to me. I have always enjoyed and loved watching, listening, and reading all things related to sports. Instead of being told what jobs, careers, or life path I have to take; I want to be able to decide on my on own and do something that I truly love and have such a deep passion for and I can do it for the rest of my life in some form or another. Academically I feel that receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Sports Marketing & Media is a starting point for me going into my career and makes it just that much more likely that I’ll succeed in the industry. I want to establish myself professional in the sports industry one way or another. I feel that after I complete my degree I will have a clear picture of what part of the industry I will be working in and know what types of jobs are a perfect fit for me. I know that by doing all of these classes and coursework I will be able to look at every different job within my industry and know what I can make out of it. I know that being successful doesn’t mean that I will be filthy rich or have a lot of power. To me being success in my industry would mean that I have a job or career that I deeply look forward to everyday and have the potential to learn and grow within the job. I feel with my hard work the money will come along with job, but this will not be my biggest motivation going into the job. Having stability and a job that provides me with several different outlooks for success, gives me so much to look forward to. I feel that the only hurdles that could possibility hold me back from not succeeding are having not enough support throughout my schooling and not having the education to get in the industry. I know that with my degree and personnel references that finding work within my industry will not be a problem for me. I have reached out to several other classmates to get insight and reflections from and this connection will help me stay motivated and have a strong support system to help me throughout the schooling process. I feel that by going all in and committing 100% to my school work will ensure I have no barriers or hurdles to contend with. According to Dr. William Glasser, we are driven by five basic needs-survival, love and belonging, power, freedom, and fun. I feel that my basic need that I will concentrate the most on is fun and freedom. Having the freedom to decide where and when I will work on projects and what career path I will follow will provide me with so much freedom. I will have so much fun doing not only all of the schoolwork, but knowing that all of my hard work will payoff in the end with that dream career. I am a true optimistic, and no matter what have a positive outlook on things no matter if I failed at them previously or know that it requires a lot of hard work over what I am capable of. I feel that my optimism has provided me with so much opportunities that I have used to my advantage and been able to accomplish so much so far in life. In creating this project and reading the coursework that goes along with the project, I was able to have even more motivation towards my career. Understanding the different theories from pessimistic and optimistic attitudes and the correlation between the two, the different life needs and where I fall in between them, to what I want to do in life instead of having to do different things in life. My explanatory style is founded upon several series of events that were in some people’s point of view to be a negative and potentially devastating to myself. I have used my optimism to encourage me though these periods and I have in return had a better approach to life and I am extremely self-driven, self-motivated, and encouraged by everyone I come into contact with to continue my life’s journey and reach that level of success I know I am capable of. After being in not only one but two potentially deadly car and motorcycle crashes, I have been able to rehab myself mentally and physically to be where I am today in life. That is another way my optimism has helped me and provided me with a crutch to reach my goals and push past them making new ones at the same time.

Behavioral Science - Left or Right Brain Expression 9/11

Behavioral Science - Self Reflection 9/11

Personal Scores for Social, Musical, Language, Logic, Math & Self

Behavioral Science - Self-Reflection

Hello my name is Kyle Thompson. For my week two study aid project I will be going over what I learned from Chapter 4 in my Behavioral Science textbook. In this chapter I learned about three different theories Cognitive Learning Styles, Brain Dominance, and Multiple Intelligences. The first style of cognitive leaning has three basic preferences to the style being either a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learning. Visual learners have the preference to learn by seeing and observing. These visual learners have written documents, displays and any other readable information to use for remembering important information. Auditory learners use listening for their learning style. These learners listen to and hear information from different outlets and are the best at being given spoken directions and can put those instructions heard into there memory banks. The last style is kinesthetic learning and is the hands on approach to learning. These learners take the most out of their learning experience by holding, touching and in general getting right into what they are learning. In an online test, I learned what my cognitive learning style is with it being a Visual learner. The test had 30 questions and I had 18 being for visual, 9 for auditory, and 3 for kinesthetic. In another online test for multiple intelligences I scored based on a 5 point scale the following test results: Body Movement (Kinesthetic) 4.86, Nature (Naturalist) 4, Spatial 3.29, Social (Interpersonal) 2.86, Musical 2.43, Language 2.29, Logic/Math 2.29, and Self 2.29. In the last online test I took I figured out what side of my brain the dominance came from. In this test I had 16 answers on left side and 4 on the right side. The left side of the brain is the academic side and the right side of the brain is the creative side. After taking all three tests and reviewing over them I think I know which one is the most accurate. I feel that the brain dominance and expression test to be the most accurate reflection of myself. Looking over both sides of the brains of expressions there was a total of 44 traits with 22 on both sides. On the left-brain of the brain I agreed with 20 of the 22 traits and on the right side I agreed with 10 out of the 22. These numbers supported my test results and I feel were correct with my learning skills. I view myself to be very detail oriented, rational, safe & cautious, logical, and very practical in my current actions and my past experiences as well. Agreeing with 90 some percent of these traits is what leads me agree with this online tests findings. I know that over time and conditioning that if I re-take the test my results will most likely change, but I feel that the way I live my life and the choices that I make will lead me to further traits being expressed on my left side of my brain.
Reflecting on my study guide I feel that I used several different strategies that I incorporated into my study aid. From my three different online tests the different strategy that I used for my study aid was my visual learning style. Doing my paper and attached creative piece in a written “visual” form was the best way for me to work from and for me to get the most out of it. After reading Chapter 4 in the textbook I used the study aid to recall useful information. With my visual learning style I then copied down important information in my own handwriting, which led me to the creation of my study aid. The Self-Awareness, Analysis, and Creative piece for this assignment were done in this visual style. Gaining knowledge of the different learning styles and brain functions was the easiest to recall for me by doing my project in a printed visual strategy. As the tests showed my left brain expressions helped me in comprehending these findings and using my attention to detail, practically, and logic to make a sensible study aid that I can continually look back at to help me in future assignments. I tried to expand upon my kinesthetic style of learning by doing my word document in a new style. I experimented and tried a different approach to my word document by trying to write down the assignment in a different way new to me, and one in a style I wanted to try. I think that having this hands-on experience of trying something new will appeal to my kinesthetic style of learning. Having done this project in two different styles of learning make it so much more likely that I will remember it even better and take even more out of it. I plan on taking these tests later in the year and update my test results and compare them with what the brain expressions mean at that moment of time. In future classes I plan on using my strong skill set as a visual learner to my advantage. Using, as many formats to remember the topics at hand will ensure me recalling and actually implementing the materials easier. I plan on using even more pictures, diagrams, displays, and charts to express my findings further my visual learning style. In future classes I want to expand my kinesthetic style and have more practical hands-on experiences. Learning by doing will be a huge help in some of my future classes at Full Sail University, and help me the most in learning new fields of study and classwork.
